Ava DuVernary Potentially Boarding Marvel Studios Project

2 min read

Ava DuVernayWhen it comes to just about any studio, there’s always changes in the realm of directors and what works.

With Marvel Studios, they’ve been pulling from interesting directions, that sometimes don’t work as we see directors leave before it gets too far, but they’re not always going with the expected. The studio has a lot of films coming up and with Joss Whedon moving on after Avengers: Age of Ultron and as the Russo brothers take on a greater role, there’s a lot of interesting opportunities coming up.

Case in point is that after her success with Selma earlier this year, Marvel and Ava DuVernay are in talks for working together with a film. The main dialogue that seems to come up is that she’s being courted for either Black Panther or Captain Marvel, both of which are very different films – particularly since we’re not quite sure what kind of Captain Marvel character we’ll get exactly.

Black Panther seems to be what’s being talked about as most likely, and with Chadwick Boseman already set for the lead, DuVernay will know exactly what she’s getting into up front. With Captain Marvel, the script for that is in the works as Marvel recently hired Nicole Perlman and Meg LeFauve to write it after providing different scripts for it. For DuVernay, she certainly has plenty of options open to her after Selma, and has been doing some TV work for some passion projects, but as other directors and actors will note, coming off of a Marvel Studios film tends to provide even more options and doors opening for more personal projects.
