Chris Evans Talks ‘Captain America’ Sequel And ‘Avengers’

2 min read

It’s definitely a busy time for Chris  Evans with all the movies he’s got going on, but the ones garnering attention are those that aren’t even production yet. With the recent announcement of dates being slotted all the way into 2014, speculation has run rampant about what new franchises could be launched then or something else with the sequels. Evans chimed in that while he doesn’t know anything in particular, he wouldn’t be surprised if the Captain America sequel doesn’t hit until 2014:

They may wait until 2014 until they release the next Cap. Marvel has a lot of balls in the air, they aren’t going to cannibalize their films.

With his contract having him slated for six Marvel films, and the expectation of not being used in a Nick Fury way, the general idea is he’ll have three Cap films and a trio of Avengers films for him to star in, though there’s always the possibility of something else (c’mon Cap and Wolverine film!). And he’s definitely aware of how that plays out and why Marvel plays it as they do by saying:

Out of those six films, if I pop up in one of those [other films], it counts as part of the deal. So if they needed me in a third Cap, and I say, ‘Fuck you, give me $30 million,’ well…they want to avoid that.

Evans has also been handling criticisms about the costume that he has for Avengers with how different it is from the World War II era and why they made those changes, and whose shoulders it squarely falls on:

You always look so horrible in those pictures. I just stopped looking at them. There’s no way to look good in those photos. The first one was a 1940s look, very utilitarian, something that would serve a purpose on the battlefield. But in ‘The Avengers,’ Joss just had a certain vision in his mind about what he wanted Cap to look like. That’s what he wanted to see. It’s so nice working on these movies and the director’s a fan. He’s the dude at Comic-Con that we’re terrified of pissing off. If Joss is happy, I’m happy.
