After some teasing earlier in the year, we learned in October 2024 that the Kowloon Generic Romance manga is getting both a TV anime and a live-action film in 2025. The anime adaptation saw an April 5th, 2025, debut, and the opening theme song was set with “Summertime Ghost” performed by Wednesday Campanella while the ending theme song is “Koi no Retronym” is performed by mekakushe.
The latest update on the property has Crunchyroll bringing out a new clip from the series, with this one from the eighth episode. Reiko asks Kudou to be with her!
The adaptation has set Yoshiaki Iwasaki to direct it from the series composition by Jin Tanaka. Yuka Shibata handles the character designs with ARVO ANIMATION on the production side.
The Japanese cast includes:
- Haruka Shiraishi as Reiko Kujirai
- Tomozaku Sugita as Hajime Kudo
- Ryotaro Okiayu as Miyuki Hebinuma
- Taito Ban as Tao Gwen
- Aoi Koga as Yaomay
- Sayumi Suzushiro as Xiaohei
- Kengo Kawanishi voices Yūlong
- Yuriko Yamaguchi as Kujirai-B
The English dub has Julie Maddalena directing it from the adaptation by Chris Cason. The English cast includes Reiko voiced by Lauren Landa, Kudo voiced by Ben Balmaceda, Lee voiced by Brent Mukai, Gwen voiced by Edward Mendoza, and Xiaohei voiced by Risa Mei.
The manga comes from creator Jun Mayuzuki which began in 2019 in Weekly Young Jump for Shueisha and has nine volumes released so far and is ongoing. The tenth volume is set for release on October 18th, 2024. The series sees an English release through Yen Press.
Mayuzuki made their debut in 2013 with Iromon! and is known for their After the Rain manga which saw an anime adaptation previously.
