Things are moving right along for the ongoing series Shogi no Watanabe-kun as it’s now taken the upcoming 7/2025 installment cover spot of Bessatsu Shonen Magazine. The manga comes from Megumi Ina, which began in 2013 and has eight volumes out so far in Japan. It has 600,000 copies in circulation in print and digital.
The series is the debut work of the creator.
Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine is a Japanese monthly manga magazine published by Kōdansha that started in September 2009 as a spin-off of another Kōdansha magazine, Weekly Shōnen Magazine.
Plot Concept: Professional shogi players are representatives of humanity! They make a living by playing shogi. They study diligently, play about 50 matches a year, and if they win, they laugh; if they lose, it’s their own fault. It’s a world dominated solely by wins and losses, much like a microcosm of life. What kind of people are shogi players? What do they eat, and how many hours do they sleep?
