
Known originally as Aru Majo ga Shinu Made – Owari no Kotoba to Hajimari no Namida, we talked back in May 2024 that it looks like an anime adaptation may be in our future. It took a bit, but the project back in June 2024 was formally confirmed with plans for a 2025 premiere. The series has Atsushi Nigorikawa directing it, and Keiichiro Ochi is handling the script supervision. Yuki Shizuku is working on the character designs with EMT Squared on the animation production.
With the series making an April 1st, 2025, debut, the streaming service has now brought out a clip from the ninth episode. Only Meg can stop the magic tree! Watch

The opening theme song is “Drops” as performed by Maaya Sakamoto while the ending theme “Hana-saku Michi de” as performed by Aoi Teshima.
The light novel series from Saka with illustrations by Korefuji, which translates as Once Upon a Witch’s Death: The Tale of the One Thousand Tears of Joy as released by Yen Press in English, began in 2021 and has one volume so far.

Plot Concept: “You’ll die in a year, because of the curse.”
“huh?”
Her seventeenth birthday. Apprentice witch Megu receives her life expectancy from her teacher, the long-time witch Faust. The only way to break her curse is to collect a thousand tears of human joy and create a “seed of life.” Her Megu expands her closed world of herself and engages with many to collect her tears. Encounters, farewells, friendships, affections, and tears. After she receives a lot of thoughts and swears her promise, Megu learns what is important as a witch and realizes what her teacher is trying to bestow on her.
