Summer 2022 saw the adaptation of the Yofukashi no Uta property from Kotoyama under the name Call the Night. With a pickup by HIDIVE already, the series got underway with a July 7th, 2022 debut and we saw both a simulcast and a bilingual home video release for it. Way back in March 2024, we learned that a second season was coming but hadn’t heard anything since. Check out our review of the first season.
With HIDIVE picking up the show earlier this season and confirming its July 4th, 2025 debut, the latest update is one I had missed recently with HIDIVE adding a subtitled trailer for the upcoming show.
The series was directed by Tomoyuki Itamura with Tetsuya Miyanishi serving as the chief director. Michiko Yokote handled the scripts with Haruka Sagawa working on the character designs.
The Japanese cast includes Gen Sato as Kou Yamori, Sora Amemiya as Nazuna Nanakusa, Yumiri Hanamori as Akira Asai, and Haruka Tomatsu as Seri Kikyō. Additional cast includes Eri Kitamura as Nico Hirata, Shizuka Itou as Kabura Honda, Naomi Ōzora as Midori Kohakobe, Azumi Waki as Hatsuka Suzushiro, Kensho Ono as Mahiru Seki, Hiroyuki Yoshino as Akihito Akiyama, and Yōko Hikasa as Kiyosumi Hirakawa.
The manga series from Kotoyama is known originally as Yofukashi no Uta, which began in 2019 and has nineteen volumes released as serialized in Weekly Shonen Magazine. It wrapped up its run in January 2024. Viz Media releases the series in English under the Call of the Night title.

Plot Concept: Nanakusa is a vampire. That’s okay with human Ko. He wants to be one too. But transformation doesn’t come that easily. When Nazuna invites Ko to spend the night at her place in an abandoned building, he awakens to kisses on his neck with a little too much bite to them. Then, when a cute girl from Yamori’s past shows up and competes for his attention, his budding relationship with the undead is put to the test.
