One series I was surprised to some degree that got a Crunchyroll pickup was this one as it’s a bit smuttier than they usually go for. The project is based on the manga by Yuichi Hiiragi which kicked off in 2019 and has ten volumes out so far with an English release through Yen Press. The adaptation itself has set Tomoe Makino to direct it from the scripts by Yu Sato. Makino has some good credits to their name, including both seasons of Aharen-san, but also the Woodpecker Detective’s Office, while Sato has a smaller list of credits but worked on all of Ninja Slayer to projectsl ike Sorairo Utility. Liden Films has definitely grown and changed over the years to meet the needs of each project and they generally have some strong production values and ways of executing a work depending on the material, which had me interested in how they’d handle this.
With the basics setup and things established for Shirota and Takamine, the series is able to dig more into just how much she manipulates her life in order to be perfect. Of course, some of this is just to train Shirota as well to understand his role, and you do have to laugh that she’s suborned him so much that he helps to put on her underwear as well. Of course, one can imagine that he’d be enjoying it, but that would totally alter the dynamic here. She torments him so well that at one point early on she comments, and visualizes, that she’s not a porn star but that if she was she’d be the most popular one out there. It just makes it clear that, along with the way she knows the name of every student, she has put so much of her time into perfecting herself to know as much as she can and do as much as she can because of this ability. And it extends from the simple to the fact that she would own the adult industry if she did go that route. It’s definitely a strong moment of character clarity.
The first half works to really make it clear to Shirota who she is, but we also see how she does help him in some ways in the second half. School athletics are not his thing, but she does her best to help him perform better, which isn’t easy since she’s so physical with him. Her demands are pretty intense, however, and having him repeat the race over and over until he does better with her power is harsh but also hilarious. At the same time, her methods work and he ends up in first plce, though some of that was his strong focus on her butt in the training and coaching as well. And she really does know how to torment him well. His knowing the truth has given her the opportunity to play with him more, and his inability to actually say or do anything just adds to it. When he ends up forgetting to give her the “closet” back at the end of the day, she needs something from it and just laments that she has to go running without underwear, resulting in some truly spicy pics making it his way. It’s a comical test to be sure, but one that lets his imagination run wild.
In Summary:
Training is training is training is what this episode comes down. Takamine knows exactly what she’s doing, and while Shirota does his best at times to try and limit her influence, the reality is that she’s got her claws deep inside of him. It’s a fun dynamic to watch play out because the designs are so good, and they do lean into the fanservice side more than a lot of other shows typically would, and that just adds to the general excitement of it. Takamine is thoroughly enjoying all of this, and you can imagine that we might learn later about how lonely she was going through all of this, resulting in her trying to find someone that she could connect with. Shirota’s still got a lot to learn in handling the situation itself, but the brief time the two spend together at night in the park here is just really enjoyable on a lot of levels. The blushes from her are definitely quite telling…
