Based on the manga by Iburō that debuted in 2019 and is ongoing with over a hundred chapters released so far, the anime adaptation landed early in the winter of 2021 with a broadcast version and an uncut version. With its English subtitled release, it’s localized as Simple Yet Sexy. The adaptation was one of the releases from AnimeFesta which saw more put into them than the first couple of projects as things started to come together more. The show has Rei Ishikura directing based on the series scripts by them and Eeyo Kurosaki. Kazuya Kuroda serves as both the character design and chief animation director with Studio Hokiboshi producing the animation.
The first couple of episodes worked a lot better than I expected and I am extra amused that the third episode takes us to the beach. That means the main cast gets to be all done up in their swimsuits for a company event. Ryohei is struggling through since he was injured before and can’t even hit the beach and the water proper while Ren is pretty much sticking to being an introvert and hanging out with him since the accident was partially because of her. But she does wear her swimsuit – under heavy clothes – but what Ryohei sees is certainly tantalizing. Amusingly, while the two hang out in the ar, she basically again pledges herself to him sexually whenever he wants but Ryohei doesn’t what that, he wants her to want it as well. They’re mostly just not clear about things in a way because Rena does enjoy sex a whole lot but she does it in this kind of awkward way in how she expresses interest. The reality is that the two of them click very well but just need to get past this part of it so they can just embrace it fully and realize how they feel.
In Summary:
This episode definitely has fun with its sex scene sine the two are in the car and while the windows are tinted there’s still plenty of chances for discovery. Having Sekiguchi come by briefly in her flimsy swimsuit is pretty difficult as well since Ryohei tries to carry a conversation while Rena is getting her enjoyment from the foreplay before she takes what she really wants from him If this company minivan is a rocking, don’t come a knocking. And boy is it rocking. I like that we get some good character time between the two as they continue to suss out their relationship a bit and the fallout from him getting hurt before it goes to a full-on intense sex scene that is definitely going to linger in that vehicle for some time to come.
