Known more as Romeo and the Black Brothers, AnimEigo previously announced a pickup from the World Masterpiece Theater side of the anime world with Romeo’s Blue Skies. The 1995 series ran for 33 episodes and AnimEigo is bringing it out for the first time in the US where it’ll have both the HD widescreen and SD fullscreen versions for fans to soak up. It’s the first time a World Masterpiece Theater show has seen a home video release in the US and it will be a three-disc set that lands in June 2025.
The set has now been scheduled with a June 10th, 2025 release where if you order from the official store directly you can get a slipcover for the set.
The series was directed by Kozo Kusuba from the scripts by Michiru Shimada. Yoshiharu Sato handled the character designs with Nippon Animation handling the animation production. The three-disc set is priced at $59.95 and will have Japanese 2.0 DTS Master Audio with English subtitles.

It’s seen streaming through Tubi, Hoopla, and a few other services in the past. It’s also had broadcast runs around the world with German, Italian, Arabic, Taiwan, and Tagalog availability over the years. It’s available digitally through Prime Video here.

Plot Concept: To get the money to pay for a doctor for his father, Romeo bravely sells himself as a chimney sweep. On the way to Milan he meets Alfredo, a mysterious boy on the run heading to the same fate. Upon being separated and sold to their new bosses, the two boys swear eternal friendship. Romeo has to learn the hardships of a chimney sweep’s job. His boss’ daughter, Angeletta, is a girl with a heart illness who is not allowed to leave her room. She asks Romeo to bring the blue sky to her. Alfredo unites the sweeps in a secret union, the “Black Brothers” to face together the “Wolf Pack” gang, who constantly attack them. With their help, Romeo succeeds in bringing Angeletta’s dream to her. Soon the brotherhood faces more hardships than cruel bosses or street hooligans. Alfredo reveals his secret: he has sold himself in the name of his sister Bianca. It is now up to the “Black Brothers” to stand up for the truth, to save Bianca and to protect their leader’s life with their own.
