The Hana-Kimi manga from Hisaya Nakajo is in the works for an anime adaptation that should see a 2025 debgut. The original manga ran for 23 volumes between 1996 and 2004 as serialized in Hana to Yume magazine. It saw a couple of live-action TV series in Japan and one in South Korea and Taiwan as well, making it a very popular title in the region. Viz Media has released the series in English.
We learned in May 2024 that an anime adaptation is coming and that Crunchyroll will stream it in North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, the CIS, and India when it arrives. Now, the production has revealed its three lead characters along with a new promo showcasing the property:
- Aya Yamane as Mizuki Ashiya
- Taku Yashiro as Izumi Sano
- Kikunosuke Toya as Shuichi Nakatsu
As Crunchyroll is already involved, they put out the English-language version of the Hana to Yume staff about the adaptation as well as Nakajo died last year:
Hana-Kimi‘ is becoming an anime! This is a project that’s been discussed for a while with Hisaya Nakajo-sensei as we moved things forward. Nakajo-sensei had been watching over the rough drafts of the characters and the scenario, and she was looking forward to seeing the world of “Hana-Kimi” presented in a different way than the manga.
It’s very unfortunate that we weren’t able to see the completed product along with Sensei, but because of the passionate support of the readers, ‘Hana-Kimi‘ is coming back again in the form of an anime right around the 20th anniversary of when the manga ended, and we are truly grateful for that fact.
Hana to Yume editorial department and the production staff have been working together so that we can live up to the expectations of Nakajo-sensei and the readers, so please look forward to the broadcast!”
