Back in 2021, the 1996 TV anime series Jigoku Sensei Nubei got a bit of a new lease on life with it as part of the spring 2021 season as a renewal presentation in (upscaled) high definition while also getting a Netflix run in Japan. That led to a home video release box that included the three movies and three OVAs in addition to the 49-episode TV series slotted. That release saw an August 4th, 2021 debut where it was priced at 49,800 yen.
We learned this past summer that a new anime adaptation is in the works with plans for a summer 2025 debut with Studio KAI handling the animation production for it. Now, a new social media update has firmed up the summer plans to July 2025 specifically (which is assumed but never guaranteed) while also indicating that it’ll be a Wednesday night show at 11:45 PM through TV Asahi’s IMAnimation W slot.
The lead Japanese cast was also revealed with a reprisal from the original series with:
- Ryōtarō Okiayu as Meisuke “Nube” Nueno
The It’s Anime channel also posted the announcement video with English subtitles and it’s likely a “big clue” that it’ll be streamed through It’s Anime when it arrives.
Plot Concept: Nube is a clumsy, easygoing, and very kind teacher, but he has a secret under his glove on his left hand. He has a monster hand, and he also has the ability to sense ghosts and evil spirits. So he protects his dear students from these evil spirits with his monster hand, proving to be very powerful.
