‘Under Ninja’ Live-Action Film Adaptation Expands Cast

We learned back in September 2021 from Young Magazine that its title Under Ninja is getting an anime adaptation. No details were provided regarding the adaptation of the manga, but we have seen other adaptations from this creator, Kengo Hanazawa. Their series I Am Hero saw a live-action film.

With an October 5th, 2023 premiere and a season that has come and gone, the potential for a second season has increased. Why? A live-action film was announced back in March 2024. Set with a January 24th, 2025 release date, the film previously revealed thatYuichi Fukuda is both writing and directing it.

The latest update new round of cast announcements after bringing out the two leads previously.

The Japanese cast includes:

  • Kento Yamazaki as Kuro kumogakure
  • Minami Hamabe as Ayaka Noguchi

The newly added cast includes:

  • Amane Okayama as Saruta
  • Chihiro Yamamoto as Mitsuki Yamada
  • Ryubi Miyase as Shion Hachiya
  • Ryо̄tarо̄ Sakaguchi as Eita
  • Mitsuru Hirata as Principal

The manga series from Kengo Hanazawa began in 2018 as serialized in Weekly Young Magazine. It’s got eight volumes out in Japan so far and is licensed for publication in English through Denpa.

After World War II, Allied Command in Japan developed a new agency to help manage terrorism and violence within the Pacific region. The agency was staffed with ninja and they were initially tasked to handle domestic affairs. Eventually, that program grew to its current form, managing 20,000 ninja across a range of domestic and international affairs. One of those ninja happens to be Kurō. The seventeen-year-old high school loser is now poised to be the next line of defense against a potential surge in foreign assassins invading Tokyo.
