With some talk previously about a new original anime feature film, the Science SARU team back in December 2022 revealed the first round of details. Kimi no Iro was set for a fall 2023 debut but that changed along the way as production moved along. The film was previously set for a formal date of August 30th, 2024, and we got the news of the English language name of The Colors Within after GKIDS, Anime Limited, and PLAION Pictures were announced as international distribution partners.

With the film landing in Japan yesterday, it also made out well by getting the 10/2024 marked installment of Newtype with the cover position which looks absolutely beautiful with its color design:

The film has Naoko Yamada directing it with Reiko Yoshida handling the screenplay. Takashi Kojima is serving as both character designer and chief animation director on it.

The Japanese cast includes:

  • Sayu Suzukawa as Totsuko Higurashi
  • Akari Takaishi as Kimi Sakunaga
  • Taisei Kido as Rui Kagehira
  • Yui Aragaki
  • Yasuko as Saku Momochi
  • Aoi Yūki as Shiho Nanakubo
  • Minako Kotobuki as Sumika Yatsushika
  • Keiko Toda as Kimi’s grandmother

Plot Concept: The story centers on Totsuko, a high school girl who can see the “colors” of the emotions in people’s hearts. She attends a mission school in Nagasaki. In order to keep her friends and family from feeling dark feelings, she worries, reads situations, and even lies to smooth things over. At an antique bookshop in the corner of town, she meets a beautiful woman with incredibly beautiful color and a music-loving boy trying to put together a band. The story follows these three sensitive people who gather together to play in a band.
