A new anime adaptation was announced in March 2023 with the Senpai wa Otokonoko, which was the winner of the AnimeJapan 2022 poll last year for the manga people wanted to see adapted the most. Fuji TV recently revealed a July 2024 premiere with it set to air on Thursdays and Crunchyroll confirmed they’d be handling the streaming for it. After previously setting a firm July 4th, 2024 premiere date for the series, some new details have arrived.
The latest update is the first preview of the second episode that’s due out on July 11th, 2024.
The show has Shinsuke Yanagi directing it from the series composition by Yoriko Tomita. Shoto Shinkai is handling the character designs with project No.9 on the animation production.
The Japanese cast includes:
- Shuichiro Umeda as Makoto Hanaoka
- Akira Sekine as Saki Aoi
- Yuma Uchida as Ryuji Taiga
- Mai Nakahara as Mika Hanaoka
- Kaori Maeda as Konatsu Taiga
The manga from Pom, which gets an English version through Line Webtoon, began in 2019 with Ichijinsha bringing it out in Japan with five volumes so far and ongoing.

Plot Concept: Can true love really overcome any obstacles? Saki, a high school student, confesses her feelings to Makoto. Taken aback, Makoto reveals his secret, but the sudden discovery doesn’t seem to bother Saki who is already head over heels for him. After being rejected, Saki asks Ryuji, Makoto’s childhood friend, for some advice on how to win his heart. A love triangle unfolds when Ryuji realizes that he might also have some feelings for his old friend.
