One property that has done well over the past several years is the Sound! Euphonium work. We learned last summer that we’ll be getting a new OVA that will get a theatrical run in Japan in 2023 and that will be followed up in 2024 with a new TV series. The OVA is based on the “Ensemble Contest Arc” from the original work.
With the OVA side handled, the focus on the TV series side has been taking center stage. Kyoto Animation previously revealed an April 7th, 2024 premiere for the show and the latest update has come in from Kyoto Animation as they’ve brought out a promo that clocks in at three minutes and showcases some of what’s come before but also how the season finale is going to unfold.
The new cast includes:
- Ayane Matsuda as Yayoi Kamiishi
- Shiina Natsukawa as Suzume Kamaya
- Emiri Suyama as Sari Yoshii
- Momoka Terasawa as Kaho Hariya
The show is based on the novel by Ayana Takeda. After originally being talked about back in October 2014, it was formalized that Tatsuya Ishihara is directing the series based on scripts by Hukki Hanada while Shoko Ikeda is handling the character designs for it.
The series stars Tomoyo Kurosawa as Kumiko Omae, Ayaka Asai as Hazuki Kato, Moe Toyota Sapphire Kawashima, Chika Anzai as Reina Kosaka, Minako Kotobuki as Asuka Tanaka, Saori Hayami as Haruka Ogasawara, Minori Chihara as Kaori Nakaseko, Haruki Ishiya as Shūichi Takamoto, Takahiro Sakurai as Noboru Taki, Kenjiro Tsuda as Takuya Goto, Miyuki Kobori as Nashiko Nagase, Konomi Fujimura as Natsuki Nakagawa, Yuri Yamaoka as Yuko Yoshikawa, Yoko Hikasa as Aoi Saito, Manami Numakura as Mamiko Oumae and Aya Hisakawa as Michie Matsumoto.
Plot concept: Sound! Euphonium tells the story of Kitauji’s High School’s music club, a top-level club that had fallen from the ranks after their adviser changed. However, a new advisor has come to whip the musicians back up to shape. In their first year of high school, Kumiko Oumae, and her classmates Hazuki and Sapphire go to see the brass band club. Kumiko decides to join the club and continue playing the euphonium until she sees her middle school classmate Reina. After remembering an incident that happened during a middle school brass band competition with Reina, she hesitates.
