If there’s a game that’s felt like it needed a full anime adaptation over the past decade more it’s the NieR: Automata game. The property was announced back in February 2022 by Square Enix and Platinum Games with an anime TV series adaptation.
The series was formally named NieR:Automata Ver1.1a and it saw a January 7th, 2023 debut but the production had a lot of troubles getting completed, and that resulted in the final four episodes being broadcast in summer 2023. Now, the second season has been scheduled with a July 2024 premiere and a new promo and key visual have arrived with it. The promo also showcases the opening theme song from LiSA with “Black Box.”

Ryouji Masuyama directed it and worked on the series composition alongside Yoko Taro from the game. Jun Nakai is working on the character designs with A-1 Pictures handling the animation production.
The Japanese cast includes Yui Ishikawa as 2B, Natsuki Hanae as 9S, Hiroki Yasumoto as Pod 042, Kaoru Akiyama as Pod 153, Chiaki Kanou as Commander, Keiko Isobe as Operator 60, Meari Hatsumi as Operator 210, Aoi Yuki as Pascal, Daisuke Namikawa as Adam, Tatsuhisa Suzuki as Eve, and Ayaka Suwa as A2.
The English cast includes Kira Buckland as 2B, Kyle McCarley as 9S, Cherami Leigh as A2, D. C. Douglas as Pod 042, Abby Trott as Pod 153, Greg Chun as Adam, Ray Chase as Eve, Alexis Tipton as Pascal, Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Commander, Cassandra Lee Morris as Operator 6O, Connor Kelly-Eiding as Operator 21O, and Erica Mendez as Lily.
Aimer is handling the opening with “escalate” while amazarashi is performing the ending theme song “Antinomy.”
