The introduction of Riri Williams in comics back in 2016 was seen as a way to provide a bridge for the Iron Man character beyond Tony Stark, which could be utilized in both comics and the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe. The character has been around for a few years now and we’ve seen how events played out in the films. We learned previously that Marvel Studios is developing a Disney+ project based on the Ironheart character as they look to be working towards a Young Avengers kind of team with a lot of what’s being introduced in this phase.
The latest update for the project came in via the Disney upfront yesterday and while touching on various Marvel projects, it was confirmed that this is still coming and it’s now set for a 2025 premiere. No firmer dates are set but with Disney talking about dialing down the volume of Marvel content, one would expect it to be later in 2025 if Daredevil is getting underway in March 2025 so as to spread out things.
The cast includes:
- Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams / Ironhear
- Lyric Ross
- Anthony Ramos
- Harper Anthony
- Manny Montana
- Alden Ehrenreich
- Shea Couleé
- Zoe Terakes
- Regan Aliyah
- Shakira Barrera
- Anji White
Chinaka Hodge is set as the head writer and will also serve as the showrunner for it. Hodge has some solid credits to her name working on the Snowpiercer TV series along with Amazing Stories that’s coming to Apple TV.
The character is currently a part of the Champions group which is made up of younger characters in a way that the Young Avengers once was.
