While we hope that the film will stand on its own, we learned formally in January 2024 that things are starting to come together for a 28 Years Later project. The original 28 Days Later film came out in 2002 with a sequel 28 Weeks Later in 2007. The new project is bringing back Danny Boyle and Alex Garland and they’re looking to present it as a new trilogy based on the events of the previous films. Boyle will direct the first one while Nia DaCosta will direct the second – with the being filmed back-to-back. All three are being written by Garland where each film is budgeted at $75 million.
The latest update is on the project is on when we might see the first film for it. Sony has now slotted the film for a June 20th, 2025 release for the first one. No other named films are slotted for that weekend yet of note.
The announced cast includes:
- Jodie Comer
