Announced back in 2021, the anime adaptation of the Sword of the Demon Hunter Kijin Gentosho novel series is now getting closer to reality. The project returned to the forefront in late 2023 with plans for this to be a summer 2024 debut and we’ve had a decent if small run of new reveals the last few months.
With a lot of the basics out of the way, the production has now brought out a new key visual while revealing both the premiere date of June 27th, 2024, and also that it’ll be a one-hour premiere.

The show has Kazuya Aiura directing it from a series composition by Deko Akao. Taro Ikegami is handling the character designs with Yokohama Animation Labe.
The light novel series from Moto’o Nakanishi began in 2019 and wrapped up with the fourteenth volume released in 2023 from Futabasha. A manga adaptation is underway with Yu Satomi handling that version.
The Japanese cast includes:
- Reina Ueda as Suzune
- Saori Hayami as Shirayuki
- Taku Yashiro as Jinta

Plot Concept: In the Edo era, young Jinta and his sister must flee their home, finding refuge in a mountain village. Years later, Jinta has grown into a skilled swordsman, sworn to protect the priestess of the village shrine. Charged with slaying a demon that threatens the shrine, Jinta confronts the malevolent creature in the forest, only to learn a shocking truth. The demon speaks of events one hundred and seventy years hence, when Jinta must confront the demon in the future. Thus begins an epic fantasy journey that spans multiple eras as Jinta hunts a demon through time and must come to terms with his own dark nature.
