The Aura Battler Dunbine series is one that’s definitely a big part of my fandom experience and being able to enjoy it in multiple forms over the years has been a treat as a long-time anime fan.
Bandai Namco Filmworks has now brought out something interesting with a SIDE L video – with SIDE R planned – that’s basically a reimagining of the original opening. I’ll admit, my first wariness was some kind of AI thing was being thrown at me and some of the first seconds made me feel it all the more, but it’s basically an homage to the original with some updated material if they made it today. It’s an interesting piece as it unfolds and brings in the original material as well and you can see it as a way to see what kind of interest there still is in the property at this point.
The original Japanese cast includes Shigeru Nakahara (Dragon Ball Super, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing), Mika Doi (One Piece, Tokyo Ghoul), and Maria Kawamura (Neon Genesis, Samurai Champloo).
Plot Concept: Transported from his home in Tokyo, a seemingly ordinary 18-year-old Shou Zama finds himself in a new world known as Byston Well, a country that has been torn apart by overlord Drake Luft. Refusing to participate in Luft?s evil plans, Shou joins the resistance where he uses his incredible Aura Powers to fight for freedom inside a lavender-colored mecha.
