Kei Sazane has their most current light novel series now being slotted for an anime adaptation of some sort with God’s Game We Play as a promotional announcement video revealed back in January 2022. The show saw an April 1st, 2024 broadcast premiere in Japan. With the sixth episode coming up in a couple of days on May 6th, 2024, the production has now brought out its first preview of the upcoming episode.
Crunchyroll confirmed their pickup of the series for the same day and that it’ll be available to viewers in North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, and CIS.
Tatsuya Shiraishi is directing it with the scripts from NTL. Yoshihiro Watanabe is handling the character designs while LIDEN FILMS is on board for the animation production.
The Japanese cast includes:
- Nobunaga Shimazaki as Fay
- Akari Kito as Leoleshea
- Hina Tachibana as Pearl
- Kanna Nakamura as Nel
- Ami Koshimizu as Miranda
- Miyu Tomita
The opening is “NewGame” as performed by AliA while the ending is “I’m GAME!” by Hina Tachibana.
The light novel series began in January 2021 and has four volumes out with Toiro Tomose handling the illustration side of the series. A manga adaptation kicked off in August 2021 in Monthly Comic Alive by Kapiko Toriumi.
Sazane’s other work with Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World recently saw an anime adaptation in the fall of 2020 with a sequel season coming.

Plot Concept: In their (overabundance of) free time, the gods grew bored and decided to create challenging battles of wits to spice things up! Their opponent? Humanity! A select few players called “apostles” meet the gods on the spiritual realm’s playing field to beat the deities at their own games. A former god named Leshea has woken after sleeping for thousands of years, and her first demand is to meet “this era’s very best player!” She is introduced to Fay, an acclaimed rookie apostle. Together, they plan to challenge the gods and win the ultimate prize, but no one in human history has managed to clear ten games—because the gods can be capricious, outrageous, and sometimes downright incomprehensible! In the face of absurdity, what can the apostles do but enjoy the contest to its fullest?
