The anime adaptation of the Insomniacs After School manga saw a TV anime adaptation and a live-action film. We learned back in January 2022 about the anime adaptation which saw an April 10th, 2023 premiere. KSM Anime has been bringing out the series on DVD and Blu-ray in Germany and the second set with the back half of the series arrived on April 18th, 2024. To help promote it a bit more, they’ve rolled out a new trailer now for the sets to showcase the German dub for it.
Yuki Ikeda is directing it based on the scripts written and supervised by Rintarou Ikeda. Yuki Fukuda is handling the character designs with LIDEN FILMS handling the animation production.
The Japanese cast includes Gen Sato as Ganta, Konomi Tamura as Isaki, Haruka Tomatsu as Yui Shiromaru, Seiichirō Yamashita as Tao Ukegawa, Lynn as Motoko Kanikawa, Natsumi Fujiwara as Kanami Anamizu, Sumire Morohoshi as Mina Nono, Mamiko Noto as Usako Kurashiki, and Shō Karino as Rui Haida.
Original creator Makoto Ojiro commented on the production details via Comic Natalie, saying: “It’s my first time getting an animation, so I’m not used to it, but I’m surprised every day by the strength of the production team’s love for the original work, as he incorporated all the important things in the work into the script.
Both Gen Sato, who played Ganta, and Konomi Tamura, who played Isaki, were perfect as if the voice that was ringing in their head while writing was reproduced as it was. It is also a highlight to see the beautiful scenery of Noto, including Nanao City, Ishikawa Prefecture, which is the stage of the work, in color. I’m looking forward to the refreshing atmosphere drawn by the young and fresh staff, including Director Ikeda.”
The manga from Makoto Ojiro began in 2019 and has eight volumes out as of this week and is ongoing as serialized in Big Comic Spirits magazine.

Plot Concept: The manga focuses on two insomniac schoolmates, a boy named Ganta and a girl named Isaki. Both worry about their constant lack of sleep. After a chance meeting in the school’s observatory-turned-storage room, the two share secrets, and begin having an unusual connection.
