With four seasons of the very popular Haikyu!! anime out there in the world, we learned in August 2022 that we’re getting closer to the end of this side of it. The official site revealed that the next and “final” story is going to be a pair of anime feature films. The project has Susumu Mitsunaka is the writer/director for the film as well as Takahiro Chiba as the chief animation director. A kick-off event is scheduled for August 2023 as we knew all the way back then and now a new update has landed for it.
The film will be known as Haikyu!! the Movie: Decisive Battle at the Garbage Dump and previously set a February 16th, 2024 release date for it. We also saw Crunchyroll pick it up with Sony Pictures and they’ve got a planned May 31st, 2024 theatrical release for it. With that coming up in just over a month they’ve now rolled out their first subtitled trailer for it.

The Japanese cast includes Ayumu Murase as Shōyō Hinata, Kaito Ishikawa as Tobio Kageyama, Daisuke Namikawa as Tōru Oikawa, Hiroki Matsukawa as Takanobu Aone, Hiroshi Kamiya as Ittetsu Takeda, Hiroyuki Yoshino as Hajime Iwaizumi, Kaori Nazuka as Kiyoko Shimizu, Kazunari Tanaka as Keishin Ukai, Kouki Uchiyama as Kei Tsukishima, Miyu Irino as Kōshi Sugawara, Nobuhiko Okamoto as Yū Nishinoya, Satoshi Hino as Daichi Sawamura, Sōma Saitō as Tadashi Yamaguchi, Yoshimasa Hosoya as Asahi Azumane, Yūichi Nakamura as Tetsurō Kuroo, Yuu Hayashi as Ryūnosuke Tanaka, and Yuuki Kaji as Kenma Kozume.
The manga from Haruichi Furudate was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump between 2012 and 2020 with forty-five volumes released. Viz Media released it in English while Sentai Filmworks has brought out the home video releases.
Plot Concept: Shōyō Hinata began playing volleyball after seeing the “small giants” who played the sport when he was in elementary school. He suffers a crushing defeat in his first and last tournament in middle school at the hands of his rival Tobio Kageyama. So, Hinata joins Kurasuno High School’s volleyball team, vowing revenge against Kageyama. However, Kageyama is also on Kurasuno’s team. The former rivals form a legendary combo with Hinata’s mobility and Kageyama’s precision ball handling. Together, they take on the local tournaments and vow to meet Kurasuno’s fated rival school in the nationals.
