The spring 2022 anime TV season saw a fun show with the debut of Ya Boy Kongming! The folks at Sentai Filmworks had picked up the property for home video release in the future and it saw streaming as a simulcast through HIDIVE. While it wrapped up previously and saw a dub produced for the home video release, the Japanese side is seeing some value in repackaging it as they’ve scheduled a compilation film for it.
The film saw a March 1st, 2024 release under the name Paripi Komei Road to Summer Sonia. Last week, the folks at HIDIVE revealed their pickup of the project and plans for a HIDIVE streaming release. Now, HIDIVE has set an April 23rd, 2024 release where it’ll arrive at 12:00 PM EDT that day in its original Japanese language with English subtitles.
The film features the song “Otona blue” as performed by Eiko.

The series was directed by Osamu Honma and based on the scripts by Yoko Yonaiyama. Kanami Sekiguchi is on board for the character designs with P.A. Works handling the animation production.
The Japanese cast includes:
- Kaede Hondo as Eiko Tsukumi
- Ryotaro Okiayu as Zhuge Kongming
- Shōya Chiba as Kabe-Taito
- Hibiku Yamamura as Nanami Kuon
- Jun Fukushima as Owner Kobayashi
The ending theme song is “Kibun Jojo,” which is performed by Eiko Starring 96Neko as they cover the 2006 original work from mihimaru.
The manga comes from writer Yuto Yotsuba and artist Ryo Ogawa.

Plot Concept: Fate and reincarnation deliver brilliant military strategist, Kongming, from warring, ancient China to Japan’s modern party hot spot in Shibuya City, Tokyo.
