After having the concept show up as part of Doom Patrol previously, a from-scratch version of Dead Boy Detectives received a series order at HBO Max based on the original work by Neil Gaiman back in April 2022. With a pilot order previously, it’ll be set for eight episodes with Steve Yockey and Jeremy Carver producing with Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television. Yockey will serve as the showrunner and wrote the pilot for it which was directed by Lee Toland Krieger.
While there was talk of Max offloading this series to Netflix since that’s where Sandman is and would be a better fit there, it was made official last fall with Netflix bringing out their first trailer for it.
The series was recently set with a formal April 25th, 2024 premiere date and now a new trailer for it has arrived below that clocks in at three minutes.

The additional series cast includes Briana Cuoco (The Flight Attendant) as Jenny the Butcher, Ruth Connell (Supernatural) as the Night Nurse, Yuyu Kitamura (The Expatriates) as Niko, and Jenn Lyon (Claws) as Esther.
Plot Concept: Do you have a pesky ghost haunting you? Has a demon stolen your core memories? You may want to ring the Dead Boy Detectives. Meet Edwin Payne (George Rexstrew) and Charles Rowland (Jayden Revri), “the brains” and “the brawn” behind the Dead Boy Detectives agency. Teenagers born decades apart who find each other only in death, Edwin and Charles are best friends and ghosts… who solve mysteries. They will do anything to stick together – including escaping evil witches, Hell and Death herself. With the help of a clairvoyant named Crystal (Kassius Nelson) and her friend Niko (Yuyu Kitamura), they are able to crack some of the mortal realm’s most mystifying paranormal cases
