The City Hunter franchise continues on and a new anime feature film has been slotted for 2023. We didn’t have a lot of details when it was announced in December 2022 but as you can see from the visual below, it’s listed with “The final chapter begins.” And with it being 37 years since the manga began, and a whole lot of anime since then, this may be moving toward wrapping it up for some time with the cast until a relaunch of some sort happens down the road.

With the film seeing a September 8th, 2023 premiere, Aniplex Japan has now scheduled the home video release. The set will be coming in four editions on January 31st, 2024 with:

– BD LE: 8800yen + tax
– BD Reg: 4800yen + tax
– DVD LE: 7800yen + tax
– DVD Reg: 3800yen + tax

No details regarding what each set has is available yet.

The film is directed by Kenji Kodama and based on the screenplay by Yasuyuki Muto. Animation production is coming from Sunrise and The Answer Studio.

The Japanese cast includes Akira Kamiya as Ryo Saeba, Kazue Ikura as Kaori Makimura, Harumi Ichiryūsai as Saeko Nogami, Tesshō Genda as Umibozu, Mami Koyama as Miki, Miyuki Sawashiro as Angie, Kenyuu Horiuchi as Shin Kaibara, Tomokazu Seki as Pirarucu, and Subaru Kimura as Espada.

The opening theme is “Whatever Comes” while the ending theme song is “Get Wild” by TM Network.

Plot Concept: Ryo Saeba, a.k.a. City Hunter. A sweeper who fulfills all his client’s needs. He’ll do anything from bodyguarding to contract killing, but he’ll only take the job if a pretty woman is involved, or the client’s sincerity makes his heart tremble. Together with his partner Kaori Makimura, the kid sister of his late best friend, Ryo fights the evil haunting the shadows of the city!!
