Netflix has been bolstering its anime library pretty well over the last few months with not just new projects but some older ones as well. The streaming service is now digging into a very popular one with the pickup of the first season of Overlord. Netflix will bring out the first season on the service on April 15th, 2024. The listing doesn’t indicate how many episodes will be coming and what constitutes a season but it’s hard to imagine that they’ll do more than the first season and do additional ones as they can to build and retain interest.

The 2015 anime series comes from author Kugane Maruyama with illustrations by so-bin that’s published by Enterbrain. It began in the summer of 2012 and released its eighth volume earlier this year. The series has had two drama CDs released with previous volumes.

It’s being animated by Madhouse with Naoyuki Itou directing it based on scripts by Yukie Sugawara and character designs by Takahiro Yoshimatsu as they adapt from the original works.

The series will star Kenta Miyake as Cocytus, Manami Numakura as Narberal Gamma, Masayuki Katou as Demiurge, Shigeru Chiba as Sebas Tian and Yumi Uchiyama as Mare Bello Fiore.

Plot Concept: On the night his favorite MMORPG is scheduled to be shut down, veteran player Momonga stays logged in until the clock hits zero. The screen goes dark for only a few moments before he finds himself completely immersed in the world of Yggdrasil. Left with all of his character’s devastating powers, total dominion over his NPCs, and nothing better to do…Momonga decides to take over the world.
