As the merger of the two services libraries continues, Crunchyroll has brought on another show from the Funimation library that’s definitely fun to watch. The twenty-four-episode series Kanon from its second iteration in 2006 was recently added in its original Japanese language with English subtitles as well as the English dub that was produced by ADV Films originally.

Recently, the show saw some new attention elsewhere as German distributor FilmConfect announced plans to bring the show out on Blu-ray. The first saw a November 3rd, 2023 release priced at 45 euros. It’ll have twelve episodes and come with a postcard as well. A DVD is also being released alongside it for the same price. The second set saw a December 8th, 2023 release and now the third volume saw a February 9th, 2024 while the fourth and final set for April 5th, 2024.

With that in mind, a new three-plus minute trailer has now been added with the German dub below.

The series has not seen a North American Blu-ray release yet.

Check out our review of the series and our ten years later retrospective.

Based on the visual novel, it was directed by Tatsuya Ishihara and based on the series composition by Fumihiko Shimo. Kazumi Ikeda adapted Itaru Hinoue’s original designs and served as the chief animation director with Kyoto Animation handling the production.

The Japanese cast includes Akemi Satō as Shiori Misaka, Mariko Kouda as Nayuki Minase, Mayumi Iizuka as Makoto Sawatari, Tomokazu Sugita as Yuuichi Aizawa, Yui Horie as Ayu Tsukimiya, and Yukari Tamura as Mai Kawasumi.

Previous trailer:

The English dub has Kyle Jones as the ADR director working from scripts by him and Kathleen Moynihan. The English cast includes Brittney Karbowski as Ayu Tsukimiya, Chris Patton as Yuichi Aizawa, Jessica Boone as Nayuki Minase, Maggie Flecknoe as Shiori Misaka, Melissa Davis as Mai Kawasumi, and Tiffany Terrell as Makoto Sawatari.

Plot concept: Yuichi hasn’t seen his cousin Nayuki in years. Now that he’s back, all knowledge of ever visiting has vanished. He tries to adjust to the vaguely familiar surroundings, but the gaps in his memory haunt him as time grows short. The pieces of the puzzle have appeared – an eerily silent beauty with blazing tresses, the mysterious girl with the winged backpack, and the sword-wielding demon slayer – but it’s up to Yuichi to discover how they fit together.
