Originally serialized in Comic Bavel from the MaArch 2024 installment, Living Together is a twenty-page story from creator Cucchiore, who has three chapters on the service. This marked my first experience with this particular creator as I was going and doing a little random sampling and wanted to try something different than the round of creators that I follow at this point. Cucchiore definitely has a lot of potential as there’s a solid enough setup for the story here, some good action in the main part itself, but also some surprising tenderness that has me curious to check out some of their other works. Part of it is that you want them to be able to tell a fuller story to see what they’re capable of but their work definitely has me wanting to check out more of their material if the tags are right.
The premise behind this introduces us to a couple named Kei and Aoto. The two had dated for a couple of years during high school but they managed to get into the same college together and that means they’ve gotten their own apartment together and are now living together for the first time. There’s some light and cute stuff at first as they get settled into things but the awkward moment comes when Aoto finds that a mystery box has been left at the door, something that he had bought into before. The problem is that while they can be interesting random things at times, this one opening up to some adult material in it is a surprise, especially since it has some adult toys within it. He’s deferential to just getting rid of it because he doesn’t want to cause an issue but some slight encouragement from Kei gets him to go forward with it.
And over the course of the chapter, we see how bringing some toys into their relationship for the first time is definitely proving to show a new side of each of them. Aoto, for his part, is intent on discovering just how far these devices can create pleasure for her while Kei is just riding the wave of it all. She’s trying to slow him down at times because so much of this is a new level of enjoyment but she’s being unleashed in ways she never understood before. And that, in turn, is making him want to see more of it and take it a bit further with each step. It’s a vicious cycle that leads to some fun and creative visuals as the use of toys and exploring each other unfolds but the final moments of the actual sequence with an absolutely destroyed couch and heaving bodies trying to recover from the experience makes for a great laugh and a real smile.
In Summary
While I do wish we had just a bit more character material here to showcase their lives more, what we do get is something that a number of couples go through when living together for the first time. Things change and just the nature of how here is amusing and fun, especially since they’re not having to be as quiet as they might have been before for various reasons. The artwork is pretty solid but it wasn’t the strongest of designs for me when it came to Kei. I do like the strong build of intensity that we get across it and how it impacts her and makes her realize that there’s so much to explore still in this very early relationship. It’s a lot of fun overall and sets the stage for a relationship that will be changing a lot.
