An interesting anime project was announced at the start of 2023 with the game show Run for the Monday inspiring a new work with Tosochu: The Great Mission. The game show itself has been going on since 2004 with a kind of hunt-and-pursuit concept within places like theme parks, malls, and so forth. It’s had a number of live-action interpretations so far so an anime is only natural.

The home video side in Japan is being handled by Frontier Works and they’ve finally set the plan for the 49-episode series. It’s being done as two Blu-ray box sets that arrive this spring and summer where the sets are priced at 26,000 yen each with a split of 25 and 24 episodes per set. Check out the full details and dates below.

The show saw an April 2nd, 2023 debut with Yukio Kaizawa and Kohei Kureta directing it. Yoichi Onishi is on board with the character designs and Toei Animation handling the production.

The Japanese cast includes:

  • Showtaro Morikubo as Sōya Tomura
  • Yumiko Kobayashi as Haru Tomura
  • Marina Inoue as Luna Nishidōin
  • Ryotaro Okiayu as Maurice Shoemaker
  • Yumi Shimamura as Harvest
  • Daisuke Namikawa as Satoshi Tsukimura

The series features fhana handling the opening theme song “Runaway World” while the ending theme song “Fly Away” is from AB6IX.

Plot Concept: Set in the future when humanity has migrated to the Moon due to Earth’s climate change, the anime incorporates its own elements such as the human drama of survival on a diverse field that blurs countries and eras such as Shibuya, Edo-period Japan, and London.
