The Weekly TV, Movie, & Games Discussion Post For Week Of January 7th, 2024

4 min read
Take look at the shows we've covered, games we're playing, and movies we're watching this week that may not show up elsewhere on the site.

We’re in the first couple of weeks of 2024 and it’s definitely not a place where a lot of people thought we’d be. With the fall TV season being pushed back due to the strikes, a lot of films delayed and being adjusted, and of course just the nature of seasonal broadcasts, it’s been pretty light lately. We’ve had a number of things we’ve checked out but a lot of what I’ve been doing is rewatching older stuff or spending time on holiday programming. Which isn’t actually a lot to talk about when you get down to it. So, to kick off this first week, we want to highlight some of the things we’re looking forward to this month.

While a lot of people are burned out on Marvel shows for good reason, I’ve continued to largely enjoy them – though the frustration of Secret Invasion ist still there. The next piece up is the five-episode series Echo which looks to help cement Daredevil as canon and to bring in a few pieces from there to do some ground-level stuff and start rebuilding trust. Of course, it’s not going to be easy because a vocal segment of online fandom is completely dismissive of this show in particular for a whole host of reasons.

The HGTV side of things is shaping up well for me as I’ve finished off a few shows recently such as the Hilary Farr one, we got the final episode of the Good Bones as the eighth season has brought that to a close, and I’m working through Fixer to Fabulous and Help! I Wrecked My House. 2024 is getting underway for me with the start of a new season of Celebrity IOU as well as Home Town returning. And I missed a Renovation competition show from last year to mix into things as well.

Having enjoyed the first season of True Detective immensely but falling out of favor hard with what followed, the new series starts up with True Detective: Night Country and it has me hopeful since it has a solid cast and crew and I’m curious to see Jodie Foster in something long-form like this.

And what’s that? A new season of Queer Eye later this month? Yes, please.

This month also sees the end of a trio of series that have been a blast that I recommend and enjoyed with Reacher, For All Mankind, and Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.
