The Hawkeye series wrapped up Christmas 2021 with its six-episode run and it set things well to bring on a new holder of the name. What it also did was served as a backdoor pilot of sorts for a spinoff of the Echo TV series. We learned at the end of 2022 that the series was being planned for a late 2023 release and that coming two years after Hawkeye ended seems about right in terms of production and getting things done, though obviously fans would want things more quickly.
As part of their upfront presentation, Disney+ originally planned for the show to arrive on November 29th, 2023 and with the full run coming out at once to binge instead of weekly – which is new for a Marvel property and I believe Disney+ in general.
The show got delayed due to the strikes and other issues and the show has been set for a January 10th, 2023 debut on both Disney+ and Hulu – which is a first. They’ll be available on Hulu until April 9th, 2024It’s also the first formal TV-MA series for the studio.
With the series coming up soon, a new behind-the-scenes style trailer has arrived for the five-episode series as it drops all at once on that day.
Previous trailer:
“In Hawkeye, fans were first introduced to Maya Lopez, a character played by Alaqua Cox. She will return to get her revenge in Echo, a limited drama from an incredible team of indigenous writers, directors and cast members. And in a first for us all episodes will drop on November 29,” he said at Disney’s Upfronts.
The Echo series has Marion Dayre developing it for Marvel Studios with Etan and Emily Cohen as the head writers for it and Sydney Freeland as leading the directing team that also includes Catriona McKenzie.
The cast includes:
- Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez / Echo
- Zahn McClarnon as William Lopez
- Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk / Kingpin
- Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock / Daredevil
Additional cast includes Chaske Spencer, Tantoo Cardinal, Devery Jacobs, Cody Lightning, and Graham Greene.
The character was created back in 1999 by David Mack and Joe Quesada in the Marvel Knights edition of Daredevil that was running at the time.
Plot Concept: Following the events of Hawkeye (2021) in New York City, Maya Lopez returns to her hometown, where she must come to terms with her past, reconnect with her Native American roots, and embrace her family and community.
