One of the more entertaining series of the 21st century when it comes to anime is the Gurren Lagann property. We’ve seen it get a few releases here and there and streaming across multiple locations. Earlier this year, Studio Trigger revealed plans for the 15th-anniversary showings of it in Japan, North America, and Taiwan later this year with 2D and 4D showings. They released a teaser spot and a new poster for it below to highlight the event. A new 4K UHD release came out in Japan on September 27th, 2023 and we’ll likely see this in North America as well with details later.
The plan we knew previously was for Japanese releases first with 2D on August 25 and 4D on October 6 for the first film while the second will be on September 22 and in 4D on October 20. With dates to come later, they’ll arrive in North America in 4D this winter while in Taiwan in 2D and 4D in October 2023.
The North American side of it got a bit of attention during the panel at Anime NYC recernty by revealing plans for a January 16th and 17th release for the first film while the second will arrived on the 23rd and 24th in either subtitled or dubbed options for both. Fathom Events will start selling tickets on December 8th, 2023.
With the tickets now on sale, Aniplex USA has brought out their latest dub trailer for it below to get people to put in for their tickets early – though this one looks to be optimized for mobile viewing platforms first and foremost.

Plot concept: This is the story of a man who has yet to realize what destiny holds in store for him…
In the distant future, mankind has lived quietly and restlessly underground for hundreds of years, subject to earthquakes and cave-ins. Living in one such village are two young men: Simon, who is shy and naive; and Kamina, who believes in the existence of a “surface” world above their heads. The destiny of these two starts moving drastically when the ceiling of their village falls in, and a gigantic “Gunmen” and a beautiful girl named Yoko, wielding a superconductive rifle, come from the surface. Together, Kamina, Simon, and Yoko ride the mecha “Lagann” that Simon digs out of the ground, and fly up to the surface!
