Back on December 20th, 2021, Yen Press announced the acquisition of Mato Seihei no Slave for release in English. The timing worked out well as just a month before, an anime adaptation was announced as in the works as announced in November 2021. The series was set for a 2023 debut with a season to be determined but at AnimeJapan 2023, it was delayed to 2024 and has been set for a January 4th, 2024 premiere.

The latest update has come in from the Japanese side of the production with a new character promo focused on Hina Tachibana as Nei Okawamura.

HIDIVE recently announced its pickup of the show for the winter 2024 season and then hosted the North American premiere of Chained Soldier with a special screening of the first two episodes back on November 17 at Anime NYC in New York City.

“We’re thrilled to host the North American premiere of Chained Soldier at this year’s Anime NYC in November,” said John Ledford, President of HIDIVE. “This highly anticipated new show based on the popular manga series by Takahiro and Yohei Takemura is sure to be a hit and we’re excited to offer it exclusively to our subscribers during our Winter 2024 season kicking-off this coming January!”

The project has Junji Nishimura as the chief director with Goro Kuji directing from the series composition by Yasuhiro Nakanishi. Ryota Kano and Akira Kindaichi are handling the scripts with Hiroyuki Yoshii on character designs. Seven Arcs is handling the animation production.

The Japanese cast includes:

  • Yuya Hirosei as Yuki
  • Akari Kito as Kyoka
  • Tomori Kusunoki as Aoba Wakura
  • Sayaka Senbongi as Koko Zenibako
  • Rina Hidaka Naon Yuno
  • Hina Tachibana as Nei Okawamura

The opening is “Yume no Ito” from Akari Kito while the ending is “CHA∞IN” as performed by Maaya Uchida.

The series title translates as Slave of the Magic Capital’s Elite Troops and comes from writer Takahiro and artist Yohei Takemura. It began in January 2019 and has nine volumes out as of the end of 2021 as serialized in Shonen Jump+.

Plot Concept: Two supernatural forces appeared simultaneously on Earth: entrances to another dimension known as Mato, and Peaches, resources that give unique abilities to women. From the Mato come Yomotsu Shuuki, dangerous monsters that leave destruction in their wake. The government’s Anti-demon Corps stands against these creatures, employing women empowered by Peaches to face the monstrous threat. Yuuki Wakura watches these forces clash from a distance, but when he unexpectedly runs afoul of a Yomotsu Shuuki, he’s rescued by Kyouka Uzen, the chief of the Seventh Unit of the Anti-demon Corp—and she sees something in him that could turn the tide of the monster incursion. Yuki holds the unique power to make Peaches more effective, but he’ll have to become Kyoka’s willing slave to join the fight against the Yomotsu Shuuki and save the world.
