It’s taken a couple of decades but the Pokemon property is ready to move to a new level. With the new series going with the English title Pokemon Horizons: The Series, things are now coming together on this front. The Pokemon Company International has announced that the series will arrive on Netflix as an exclusive on February 23rd, 2024 – just days ahead of Pokemon Day 2024 which celebrated the launch of the original game back on February 27th, 1996.

The series will also be seeing a broadcast release through Cartoon Network and Teletoon in Canada on March 2nd, 2024 and on 9Go! in Australia on February 27th, 2024.

Check out the newly released trailer below.

“In celebration of Pokémon Day 2024, fans will be able to embark on an all-new Pokémon animated adventure when ‘Pokémon Horizons: The Series’ premieres in more markets early next year,” said Taito Okiura, vice president of marketing for The Pokémon Company International. “With ‘Pokémon Horizons: The Series’ being the first new animated series released in more than 25 years, both longtime Trainers and a new generation of fans can look forward to exploring the Pokémon world in a fresh and unique way.”

The project has Saori Den directing it with Daiki Tomiyasu as the creative director. Sai Sato is handling the scripts while Rei Yamazaki is the character designer.

The new series will feature two new lead characters that in the Japanese version will be called Liko and Roy. The project will also feature Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly from the Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet video games, and will also feature the Legendary Pokemon Rayquaza.

The Japanese cast includes:

  • Minori Suzuki as Liko
  • Yuka Terasaki as Roy
  • Taku Yashiro as Friede
  • Ikue Ōtani as Captain Pikachu

The English cast includes:

  • Alejandra Reynoso as Liko
  • Anjali Kunapaneni as Roy
  • Crispin Freeman as Friede
  • Ikue Ōtani as Captain Pikachu

Plot Concept: In a world filled with strange yet majestic creatures known as Pokémon, a new adventure begins! Hailing from the pristine region of Paldea, the timid Liko travels to the Kanto region to attend the Indigo Academy and become a Pokémon trainer—a person who forms relationships with Pokémon and trains them to participate in battles. Soon, Liko acquires Nyahoja, a fickle Grass-type cat Pokémon, as her first partner.

Prior to Liko’s transfer to Kanto, her grandmother gives her a uniquely patterned and gleaming pendant as a protective charm. However, an enigmatic organization—The Explorers—seems to know a secret about the pendant and nearly succeeds in stealing it from Liko. Fortunately, she is rescued by the Rising Volt Tacklers, a group of adventurers led by a Lizardon-riding trainer named Friede.

After a series of encounters with The Explorers, Liko decides to join Friede’s team, accompanying him and his crew members on a grand journey across the regions. Along the way, they aim to unravel not only the mysteries of the world of Pokémon, but also the power that resides within her pendant.
