It continues to be a tough time for Disney as The Marvels has slid to sixth place and finally cracked the $75 million mark while Wish debuts in third with a $19.5 million three-day take and a $31.7 million five-day total when you add in the holiday itself. You can sense that the house of the mouse is looking to refigure everything out top to bottom, or at least you hope so as their methods of making movies aren’t working for the big projects for a host of reasons.
The second weekend for Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes did well with a $28.8 million three-day take to bring it to $98 million total domestic and a good bit more to go. The big new film this week was Napoleon which came in at $20 million for its three-day and $32.5 million as its five-day and I believe a worldwide that has it coming in at a $78.8 million worldwide take so far before it arrives on Apple TV+ next month.
As Deadline points out, the weekend came in at $173.9 million total which is the best post-pandemic total but it’s still very much under the 2109 take of $263 million and the 2018 record of of $315 million.
