
There’s always a lot of attention on anime based on works by Naoki Urasawa and we may have another one in our future. We learned yesterday from the Big Comic site for Shogakukan in Japan was listing that their manga series Pluto is getting an animated adaptation that will be a Netflix exclusive.
At their Anime Expo 2023 panel, Netflix revealed an October 26th, 2023 debut for it and brought out a new trailer, an updated synopsis, and some cast additions that you can see below. Now, as we’re just a few weeks away from its debut, the official site has revealed what they’re calling the final trailer and a new key visual below.
The show is directed by Toshio Kawaguchi with Shigeru Fujita on the character designs with Studio M2 handling the production.
The Japanese cast includes Shinshū Fuji as Gesicht, Yōko Hikasa as Atom, Minori Suzuki as Uran, Hiroki Yasumoto as Mont Blanc, Koichi Yamadera as North No. 2, Hidenobu Kiuchi as Brando, Rikiya Koyama as Hercules, Mamoru Miyano as Epsilon, Toshihiko Seki as Pluto, Hideyuki Tanaka as Brau-1589, Romi Park as Helena, Toshio Furukawa as Professor Ochanomizu, Eizou Tsuda as Dr. Tenma, Kazuhiro Yamaji as Professor Abullah, Michio Hazama as Duncan, and Kenyuu Horiuchi as President Alexander.
The manga from Naoki Urasawa began in 2003 and wrapped up in 2009 with eight volumes. Viz Media released it in English previously and we’ve seen a stage play in Japan and the live-action rights were picked up well over a decade ago but were never exercised.
