GKIDS Reveals ‘Howl’s Moving Castle’ Theatrical Anime Releases Cross The $3 Million Mark

GKIDS is getting things in order for the next part of the Studio Ghibli Fest that's underway for 2019 with the return of Howl's Moving Castle.

GKIDS is getting things in order for the next part of the run of bringing out Studio Ghibli films in the craziness of 2023 with the return of Howl’s Moving Castle. The film saw a limited run for this month, sneaking in with some of the open screens by working with Fathom Events in order to do the one-night showings that theaters like as it draws in unique crowds. The film arrived on September 23rd through the 27th and now Fathom Events is reporting some new data for it.

The film has now hit $3.2 million since it began its theatrical release in North America years ago and has had multiple screenings through the yearly GhibliFest event.

According to Fathom Events:

The 2004 feature film was written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki with character designs by Akihiko Yamashita. The Japanese cast includes Chieko Baisho as Sophie Hatter, Takuya Kimura as Howl, Akihiro Miwa as Witch, Akio Ohtsuka as King of Ingary, Haruko Kato as Madam Suliman, Ryunosuke Kamiki as Markl, and Tatsuya Gashuin as Calcifer.

The English cast includes Lauren Bacall, Christian Bale, Billy Crystal, Blythe Danner, Emily Mortimer, and Jean Simmons.

Plot Concept: Sophie, a quiet girl working in a hat shop, finds her life thrown into turmoil when she is literally swept off her feet by a handsome but mysterious wizard named Howl. The vain and vengeful Witch of the Waste, jealous of their friendship, puts a curse on Sophie and turns her into a 90-year-old woman. On a quest to break the spell, Sophie climbs aboard Howl’s magnificent moving castle and into a new life of wonder and adventure. But as the true power of Howl’s wizardry is revealed, Sophie finds herself fighting to protect them both from a dangerous war of sorcery that threatens their world.
