It just feels like a revisit that doesn't work.

We all hope for sequels to our favorite chapters but sometimes they don’t work out like you’d hope.

Originally serialized in Comic Bavel from the September 2023 installment, There’s Really No Fighting Kyouko-san is a twenty-page story from creator Kohri, who just over a dozen other works on the service. This marked my latest experience with this particular creator, obviously, as I enjoyed the first couple of chapters I tried and am now checking out things that I missed in their catalog. This one also drew some attention with the tags that it has and their small back catalog of things to read makes it easy so that I can have more to check out but not be overwhelmed by their catalog. The preview image had something that played to the wholesome side as well and that’s always fun to watch unfold.

As a sequel to There’s No Fighting Kyouko-san which came out in early 2022, it’s always exciting to go back to something familiar. The story of Hiro and Kyouko is something that I missed the tags on before and their relationship, which I’m believing has them not truly related by blood, not that it makes it any better. Time has gone on here and the two are still pretty deep in it but Hiro is wondering about the future because he believes it’s all about sex on her part at the moment. That’s reinforced when he sees her out with another man at a restaurant but it’s all just a misunderstanding. It does set things in motion when he kind of calls her out on it, or at least that he wants things to be more formal between them, and we get her being far more into it than he expected her to be based on what he thought would happen. It’s kind of comical in a way and while it’s wholly unrealistic in just about every way, it sets the stage for her to get him to make up to her his thinking she she was cheating on him.

That lands them at a love hotel where the only room available is a BDSM-oriented one. And it fits since she wants to punish him a bit for his lack of faith, which results in some good time as she uses some of the tools of the trade there to push him to the edge and beyond, which is a cruel and wonderful kind of torture. She takes charge for a good bit of it before things get a bit more serious and the two have the clear confession piece, which has him taking the lead only until she insists on taking control again. It’s a good run of back-and-forth material between them and it plays into the lighter side of the BDSM with some laughs and humor and nothing too serious going on here. Granted, it ends up with them formally living together but it plays it in a kind of amusing way because of last names and all that which allows it when it’s not actually allowable. But hey, they’re not truly related so it’s all okay.

In Summary
The taboo element is always strong in works like this for obvious reasons but that feels diminished in this one because it’s been ongoing and is trying to get a sweet vanilla ending. You can easily just take a couple of words out of the chapter and not have that all so it can still work well enough if you’re able to do it. But something about the chapter just didn’t work for me as it felt like a revisit was fine and could be fun but the execution with it being a love hotel and no real exploration of what they’re doing coming into it. Yeah, I know, it’s just a short hentai story. But by delving into the character a bit more it could have been more engaging and hit the right spots better. It just feels like a revisit that doesn’t work.
