Netflix added another piece of Japanese media to their plans as part of Geeked Week last summer with the reveal that Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead is getting a live-action film. Previously, an anime adaptation was revealed as on the way with an announcement in Japan from Shogakukan and a trailer from Viz Media who is handling it – with the confirmation that Hulu will be streaming it for them in the US.

The project saw a July 9th, 2023 premiere date set with it going live on Crunchyroll and Hulu and now some new promotion has arrived. Crunchyroll has a dub clip from the fourth episode where you have to remember to never stop dreaming!

With Viz holding rights for it in North America, Latin America, Australia, and New Zealand, the show has Kazuki Kawagoe directing it from the scripts overseen by Hiroshi Seko. Kii Tanaka is handling the character designs with BUG Films handling the animation production.

The Japanese cast includes:

  • Shuichiro Umeda as Akira Tend
  • Tomori Kusunoki as Shizuka Mikazuki
  • Makoto Furukawa as Kenichiro Ryuzaki
  • Minami Takahashi as Beatrix Amerhauser

The English dub is getting an August 6th, 2023 premiere on Hulu. The English cast includes:

  • Zeno Robinson as Akira Tendo
  • Abby Trott as Shizuka Mikazuki
  • Xander Mobus as Kenichiro Ryuzaki
  • Laura Post as Beatrix Amerhauser

The series features the opening theme song “Song of the Dead” from KANA-BOOM and the ending theme song “Happiness of the Dead” from Shiyui.

The original manga comes from Haro Aso and Kotaro Takata which is being released in English by Viz Media. The film will be directed by Yusuke Ishida based on the screenplay by Tatsuro Mishima. Check out the promo and key visual below. Check out our review of the first volume of the manga here.

Plot Concept: Surviving a zombie apocalypse beats being a wage slave any day! After spending years slaving away for a soul-crushing company, Akira’s life has lost its luster. He lives in a trash-filled apartment, his pay is abysmal, and he can’t even muster up the nerve to confess his love to his beautiful co-worker. But when a zombie apocalypse ravages his town, it gives him the push he needs to live for himself. Now Akira’s on a mission to complete all 100 items on his bucket list before he…well, kicks the bucket.
