‘Dog Signal’ TV Anime Expands Staff & Cast

A new anime adaptation is set for the fall 2023 season with the Dog Signal manga getting the nod back in January 2023. It’ll be a part of the NHK anime lineup of titles that have been set for an October 22nd, 2023 premiere with the staff and cast set. Kazuhiro Furuhashi is directing it with it set to air on NHK Education.

The latest update comes from NHK as they’ve now expanded the cast below and revealed that Satomi Ashino worked on the scripts and that Fugaku is the animation studio working on it.

The Japanese cast includes:

  • Kenichi Suzumura as Shinichirō Niwa
  • Kenn as Suzunosuke Kubō
  • Kensho Ono as Miyu Samura
  • Yuko Kaida as Ritsuka Izumi

The newly added cast includes:

  • Anna Mugiho as Sanju
  • Kenichirō Matsuda as Woolson
  • Mariya Ise as Yūko

The manga from Saya Miyauchi began in 2018 and has nine volumes out as of February 2023. This is Miyauchi’s fourth work after Akkan BabyHonma ni Kanjan Eight!!, and Shirahata no Shoujo.

Plot Concept: The story follows pet owner Miya Samura who is having trouble with their dog that she was forced to home, one day her life is turned upside down when they meet dog trainer Niwa and is amazed by their supernatural dog-teaching ability. The story shows the struggles of dog owners as well as the connection between humans and their animals.
