A new anime is set to arrive in 2023 with an anime adaptation of the Gangan Joker serialized Ragna Crimson property. We learned about that adaptation back in March 2022 as the manga entered its final climax arc. At Anime Expo 2022, the folks at Sentai Filmworks previously revealed their pickup of this planned September 30th, 2023 series which will stream exclusively on HIDIVE first and then get a home video release later.
With the first episode set as a one-hour special and the reveal that this is a two-cour series, the latest update comes from HIDIVE. They’ve confirmed the September 30th, 2023 premiere date and have set it for 1:30 PM EDT / 17:30 UTC. The show will be getting an early premiere at Anime Houston 2023 on September 22nd, 2023 when it’s shown at the convention.
There will also be a premiere screening and a talk show by the cast at Shinjuku Piccadilly, a theater in Tokyo, on September 2nd, 2023. The full one-hour episode will be shown, followed by a talk show including Chiaki Kobayashi, who plays Ragna, and Ayumu Murase, who plays Crimson. Pre-orders have started on Lawson Ticket, so be sure to get your ticket to visit the theater if you’re local to it!
The show has Ken Takahashi directing it and is based on the scripts overseen by Deco Akao. Shinpei Aoki is handling the character designs. Silver Link is on board for the animation production.

The opening theme song is “ROAR” performed by ulma sound junction.
The manga from Daiki Kobayashi began in 2017 and has ten volumes out as published by Gangan Joker magazine for Square Enix.

Plot Concept: Dragons reign terror over the earth, sea, and sky. If sworn dragon hunters like Ragna are to have any hope of dealing death to these seemingly invincible, fire-breathing beasts, they must find a way to level the odds. Ragna teams up with a mysterious man named Crimson who has likewise sworn to stand against the dragons menacing the world. But although Crimson’s motivations may be mysterious, his goal and Ragna’s perfectly align, and together they’ll fight to vanquish the dragons once and for all.
