Madman Solicits ‘Nikuko of the Fishing Harbor’ Blu-ray Releases

A heartwarming and moving comedy-drama with touches of magical realism. Fortune Favors Lady Nikuko is about an unconventional family and the bonds that they share in their sleepy seaside town.

The folks at Studio 4°C released a new project that we saw in the summer of 2021 with the anime adaptation of Gyoko no Nikuko-san, which translates as Nikuko of the Fishing Harbor. It’s based on the novel of the same name by Kanako Nishi which has over 350,000 copies in print since its debut in 2014. The project saw a formal premiere date of June 11th, 2021. With a few releases around the world and on home video, the Australian release through distributor Madman Entertainment was previously schedule but has now been solicited to retailers. .

Their plan is for a November 8th, 2023 release priced at $39.99 and $54.95 for the regular and limited edition respectively. The bilingual releases include:

The feature film is directed by Ayumu Watanabe and is based on the screenplay by Satomi Ooshima. Kenichi Konishi is on board as the chief animation director and working as the character designer with Studio 4°C handling the production.

The Japanese cast includes Shinobu Otake as the lead character of Nikuko, Cocomi as Kikuko, Natsuki Hanae as Ninomiya, and Hiro Shimono as the lizard and gecko. Additional casting includes Ikuji Nakamura as Sassan, Riho Yoshioka as Miu, Matsuko Deluxe as Darcia, Atsushi Yamanishi, Yuichi Yasoda, and Izumi Ishii as Maria,

Plot Concept: The story tells the tale of a mother named Nikuko and her daughter, Kikuko, who live on a boat. The novel follows their paths in life and their growth.
