We learned in November 2020 that the manga series Kanojo mo Kanojo, aka She’s a Girlfriend Too, was getting an anime adaptation. The series got underway with a July 2nd, 2021 debut at 2:25 am JST with it as a part of the Animeism block on MBS and TBS as well as the BS-TBS satellite service. Crunchyroll handled the simulcast and brought out an English dub as well.

With a second season announced previously, we knew that it’ll make its debut in October as part of the fall 2023 season. Recently set with an October 6th, 2023 premiere date, the show now has a new promotional video out that showcases more of the season. It also previews the opening theme song “Dramatic ni Koi Shitai” from Hikari Codama.

Crunchyroll revealed at the Animagic convention that they’ve picked up the rights to the new season. They’ll be streaming it to subscribers in North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East and CIS.

Takatoshi Suzuki is on board to direct it with Keiichi Ochi handling the scripts. Shouko Hagiwara is handling the character designs with Synergy SP taking on the animation production duties. Satoshi Kuwabara directed the first season based on the scripts coming from Keiichiro Ochi. Akiko Toyoda is handling the character designs with Tezuka Productions working on the animation itself.

The Japanese cast includes Junya Enoki as Naoya Mukai, Ayane Sakura as Saki Saki, Azumi Waki as Nagisa Minase, Ayana Taketatsu as Rika Hoshizaki, Rie Takahashi as Shino Kiryū, and Aoi Koga as Risa Hoshizaki.

Studio Nano handling the production with Peter Hawkinson directing it from the scripts by Madeleine Morris. The English cast includes Kevin D. Thelwell as Naoya Mukai, Brittany Lauda as Saki Saki, Madeleine Morris as Nagisa Minase, and Elizabeth Maxwell as Shino Kiryuu. Additional voices include Dusty Feeny, Justin Green, Chris Long, and Meg McClain.

The manga comes from creator Hiroyuki who has created series such as Aho Girl and The Comic Artist and His Assistants as well as older projects like Doujin Work. The new series launched in March 2020 and has just one volume to its name.

Plot Concept: After their hot springs trip, Naoya continues his relationships with both Saki and Nagisa. Bringing along Milika (who kissed Naoya) and Shino (who secretly has romantic feelings for Naoya), they embark on a summer vacation full of romance with a fireworks festival, camping, and Okinawa.

Milika’s younger sister Risa also appears, making the romance in this neo-standard rom-com heat up even more. A season two filled with summer and swimsuits is about to begin!
