2 min read

Nozomi Entertainment revealed that their license of the Rose of Versailles classic anime series was going out of print back in 2018 and the market hasn’t been the same without this classic easily available. Discotek Media previously announced that they’ve picked up the rights to this property with plans for the first of two sets for it in early 2021 on Blu-ray This is going to be a “true HD remaster” of the series and will be presented in its original Japanese with English subtitles.

With that out in the wild, the folks at RetroCrush have now added the series to their streaming slate in its original Japanese.

The anime adaptation was done in 1979 and that finally got licensed by Right Stuf and released in 2013 in two halves on DVD. UDON Entertainment licensed the manga back in 2015.

Plot concept: Raised from birth as a man, the Lady Oscar commands the palace guards at Versailles in the years before the French Revolution. Her beauty and noble spirit make her a shining figure in the eyes of both men and women but she is torn between her chosen life of service and duty to class and country and her own heart and desires. She lives as a noble amidst the opulence of Versailles but her keen senses and compassion are not blinded to the poverty of the French people.
