The Masamune-kun’s Revenge property is something that we haven’t heard about since 2019 when Crunchyroll streamed the OVA for it. The original work itself wrapped up some time ago and we had the 2017 TV anime adaptation that kicked off as the manga was closing in on its finale. We learned on April 1st, 2022 – of all dates – that a second season is coming as Masamune-kun’s Revenge R.
Originally set for the spring 2023 season, the project saw a July 3rd, 2023 premiere for the new season which is now underway. The Japanese side is doing some new promotion for it by streaming the first preview of the twelfth episode that’s scheduled for a September 18th, 2023 premiere.
Ayaka Ohashi is performing the song “Please, please!” as the opening for it, and ChouCho is going to be performing “Elemental World” for the project.
The series began back in 2012 with writer Takeoka Hazuki and artist Tiv and it wrapped up with ten volumes worth of material through Comix Rex in 2018.
The TV series was directed by Mirai Minato and based on the series composition by Michiko Yokote. Yokote worked on the scripts with Kento Shimoyama while Yuki Sawairi handled the character designs. The show was animated by Silver Link.
The Japanese cast includes Ayaka Ohashi as Aki Adagaki, Inori Minase as Yoshino Koiwai, Yui Ogura as Kinue Hayase, Asuka Oogame as Chinatsu Hayase, Mariya Ise as Sonoka Kaneko, Kanae Itou as Kikune Kiba and Satomi Sato as Mari Mizuno. The second season includes the addition of Miku Itō as Muriel Besson and Yasuyuki Kase as Frank Besson.

Plot concept: As an overweight child, Makabe Masamune was mercilessly teased and bullied by one particular girl, Adagaki Aki. Determined to one day exact his revenge upon her, Makabe begins a rigorous regimen of self-improvement and personal transformation.
Years later, Masamune re-emerges as a new man. Handsome, popular, with perfect grades and good at sports, Masamune-kun transfers to Aki’s school, and is unrecognizable to her. Now, Masamune-kun is ready to confront the girl who bullied him so many years ago and humiliate her at last. But will revenge be as sweet as he thought?
