A new TV anime has been in the works for 2023 with the announcement of The Masterful Cat Is Depressed Again Today getting an adaptation. The May 2022 announcement didn’t have any details but things filled in as it was planned for a summer 2023 debut on the Animeism block for MBS and TBS.
With the show previously set for a July 7th, 2023 debut on MBS and TBS as part of their Animeism block, the official site has now updated with the first preview of the eleventh episode due out on September 15th, 2023.
The show has Susumo Kudo on board as the chief director with Katsumasa Yokomine as the director working from the scripts overseen by Tamazo Yanagi. Takayuki Uchida is handling the character designs with GoHands handling the production.
The Japanese cast includes Hiroki Yasumoto as Yukichi, Yui Ishikawa as Saku Fukuzawa, Ai Kakuma as Yuri Shibasaki, Katsuyuki Konishi as Kaoru Orizuka, M.A.O as Rio Nishina, Miyu Irino as Tenchō (Shop Manager), Ayana Taketatsu as Yume, Yōko Hikasa as Yume’s Mother, Tamie Kubota as Yume’s Grandmother, Satomi Satou as Saku’s Mother, Jun Fukuyama as Saku’s Father, Aoi Inase as Oshiro, and Kotoe Taichi as Mei the Next Door Neighbor.
The opening theme song is from somei with “Ureu Kado niwa Fuku Kitaru.”
The manga comes from creator Hitsuzi Yamada who began the title in 2018 and is serialized through Suiyoubi no Sirius magazine. It has five volumes out in Japan so far and is listed as ongoing.

Plot Concept: When Saku took in a stray black cat, she never expected that he would become the equivalent of a housekeeping life partner. But Yukichi, a giant cat who towers over Saku, is not your ordinary feline. He takes great pride in his culinary skills, and a good sale at the supermarket always gets his whiskers twitching. Saku may not have her act together yet, but at least she has Yukichi!
