I’ve talked before about how this is pretty much my favorite show after the original six-episode OVA series, the Tenchi Muyo! GXP ran for twenty-six episodes and still makes me smile when I think about it. But the show is also one that never really got that much attention over the years because it had such light ties to the original. We learned in December 2022 that a new project is underway that will connect the fourth and fifth seasons of the larger work together with something that’s going with the subtitle of Paradise Arc Begins.
The project was formalized recently but I had forgotten to set the Japanese release schedule details to track. The show is getting produced as a six-volume release on Blu-ray that begins on May 26th, 2023, and will wrap up on October 27th, 2023. Each set is priced at 7,000 yen and you can see the full schedule below.
The series has its fifth volume out at the end of the month and we now have a look at the main cover and full packaging spread for it below.
With Masaki Kajishima involved as a general supervisor, it has Hiroshi Negishi as the chief director with Takashi Asami directing it from the composition by Hideki Shirane. Nana Hiiragi is handling the character designs for it with Tomoyuki Abe as the chief animation director. AIC X Saber Project is handling the animation.
The Japanese cast is set with Hirofumi Nojima as Seina Yamada, Satsuki Yukino as Tsukiko Masaki, Rie Tanaka as Miki Steinbeck, Megumi Toyoguchi as Kirche, Chie Nakamura as Fuku, Ai Uchikawa as D, and Ryoka Suzuki as Jovia Jovis.
It’s worth noting that the series spawned a light novel series by Masaki Kajisima, the original creator behind Tenchi Muyo, and that it has had eighteen volumes through 2018.
The original series was directed by Shinichi Watanabe and based on the series composition by Yousuke Kuroda, Atsushi Okuda handled the character designs with AIC handling the animation production.
The Japanese cast includes Shigeru Mogi as Seina Yamada, Aya Hisakawa as Ryoko Balta, Kumi Sakuma as Kiriko Masaki, Mariko Suzuki as Amane Kaunaq, Mitsuaki Madono as Seiryo Tennan, Nana Mizuki as Neju Na Melmas, Niina Kumagaya as Elma, Sakiko Tamagawa as Airi Masaki, Shinichi Watanabe as NB, Tomoko Kaneda as Fuku, Toshihiko Nakajima as Da Ruma, Yukari Nozawa as Seto Kamiki Jurai, and Yuki Matsuda as Tarant Shank.
Plot Concept: Seina Yamada is unlucky… so unlucky that when he stumbles upon a recruiter looking for his senpai Tenchi he gets taken instead. Forced into the Galaxy Police, his luck begins to change. A natural to randomly jumping near pirates, he is assigned his own decoy to draw out pirates. His luck brings him into the lives of four women who have a habit of canceling out his bad luck, turning it into good. Armed with this luck, they pilot the most powerful ships in the Tenchi Universe to defeat the Da Ruma pirates. Now the only uncertainty is whether the sexy Amane Kaunaq, a former model turned into a GP detective, sturdy Kiriko Masaki, who has known Seina for years, the mysterious Ryoko Balta, a former pirate named after the legendary one, or the child-like Neju Na Melmas, a powerful 2000-year-old priestess, will win Seina.
