2nd ‘Mix’ Anime Season Sets New Koshien Key Visual

The anime adaptation of the Mix manga from Mitsuru Adachi from YTV aired in the spring and summer of 2019 with Funimation simulcasting and releasing a simuldub for it as well. In a surprising move, a second season was announced in August 2022 with no details. With it set for the spring 2023 season, we learned previously that Tomohiro Kamitani is on board as the new director while the main staff is returning from the first season otherwise.

The new season is going by Mix: Meisei Story ~Nidome no Natsu, Sora no Mukou e~, which translates as Mix: Meisei Story ~Our Second Summer, Beyond the Sky~, saw an April 1st, 2023 premiere date. It’s listed at 24 episodes according to the broadcast site and as we get closer to the end of the season this month, a new key visual has arrived with our cast arriving at Koshien!

This season features the opening theme song “Starting Over” by sumika and the ending theme song “Haru no Oto” by miwa.

The first season was directed by Toshinori Watanabe and based on the series composition by Atsuhiro Tomioka. Tatsuto Higuchi, Kenichi Yamada, Yoshifumi Fukushima, and Chinatsu Houjou are all working on scripts for it. Takao Maki is handling character designs while OLM is handling the animation production.

The Japanese cast includes Noriko Hidaka as Minami Asakura, Yuuki Kaji as Toma Tachibana, Yumi Uchida as Soichiro Tachibana, Ryusei Nakao as Isami Nishimura, and Maaya Uchida as Otomi Tachibana.

The manga from Mitsuru Adachi launched in 2012 and has thirteen volumes out this year. It’s related to the events in the Touch manga that ran for twenty-six volumes during the early 1980s.

Plot Concept: A new generation steps up to the plate in a moving sequel to the 1985 baseball manga, Touch. Stepbrothers Touma and Suichirou are ace players on Meisei High School’s baseball team, and thanks to them, the team may finally have a chance at returning to nationals. But little by little, a tragic legacy unfolds as the stepbrothers follow in their fathers’ footsteps.
