Originally serialized in Comic Kairakuten BEAST from the July 2023 installment, Secret Closet is a twenty-four-page story from creator Nekomata Naomi, who has over two dozen or so other works on the service. I’ve been hit or miss with their material because of the tags but this one had all the right ones, and after having a decent story with the With a Realistic Touch chapter a couple of months ago, I wanted to get back into the groove of their work with more of their work. The simple thing, however, is that the artwork is great as I really like their designs in general, especially with clothing and settings, and that helps to really make it feel far more immersive and real in a way than so much of the very bland and basic hentai I grew up on.
This story is one that feels like it needed more time to engage with the characters even at the cost of a couple of pages of adult material. The premise is simple in that we two nameless leads that are neighbors and either in their late teens or early twenties. He’s come over to drop off some food from his family and talks with the mother there that complains that her daughter, who doesn’t listen to her at all, hasn’t left her room in forever and asks him to check on her. It’s been years since he was last in her room since they weren’t that kind of childhood friends is a bit wary but he’s pushed into it by the mom. What he finds is that the daughter has essentially set herself up a small soundproof closet so she can stream herself. It was initially just because she’s loud when she handles herself but she’s now been tempted to try and stream her self-pleasure sessions.
While she’s presented as something of a lazy and kind of sloppy type, you can tell there’s an attraction between the two and her playfulness leads to her teasing him when it comes to the vibrator she’s got there. But he turns the tables on her and pins her down, leading to her encouraging him a lot with some dares and the two of them all over each other quickly. It’s a fun sequence as it’s all focused on her at first – and then a break when her mom comes in and sees that they’ve “apparently left and went out” – and then he makes sure that he gets something out of the engagement between the two of them as well. She used him like a toy at first and he basically does the same, but both have a good time and it’s very well illustrated with the costuming and the location for it all. I like the back and forth that we get between the two and that in the end she’s still kind of disaffected by all of it since she’s still thinking about streaming.
In Summary
The action in this is really good and Nekomata’s artwork is just strong in general. I do wish it had focused on the tight quarters aspect more of the closet and I absolutely hate stories that don’t provide names for the characters. There are ones where that works but something like this needed a few more pages of setup and it needed names so that it flowed and felt better. The concept is fun and you can see some amusing ways to move it forward with what her still likely to stream sequences and to dig into how he handles it – or participates in it. The main draw is the quality of the artwork and the specific things that they do here, which with the toys involved are pretty fun to watch. It’s just not going to resonate long-term.
